To become a certified ISO 55001 auditor you need to meet the competences outlined in ISO 17021-5:2013 – Part 5: Competence requirements for auditing and certification of asset management systems. The Global Forum on Maintenance and Asset Management (GFMAM) also provides some guidance in their Auditor Assessor Specification.
There are two components to demonstrating competence. The first is by demonstrating a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. The second is more specific knowledge of key elements of ISO 55001 and its associated documents, ISO 55000 and ISO 55002, as well as relevant elements within the Asset Management Landscape.
In practice, there are two alternative ways of demonstrating that you possess the relevant knowledge.
The first is by passing the Certified Asset Management Assessor (CAMA) exam run by World Partners in Asset Management (WPiAM). The WPiAM website should give you details of the dates and locations of their exams.
The second is by passing the Institute of Asset Management Certificate or Diploma exam. These exams can be done online at any Pearson Vue exam centre at a time that suits you. The IAM website provides information about the process for arranging to sit these exams.
