About this Training Course

Assetivity offers this training course as an introduction to Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) and Planned Maintenance Optimisation (PMO) techniques for personnel who are expected to contribute to equipment maintenance strategy development activities. Participants will gain an understanding of:

  • The key concepts and principles underlying RCM and PMO
  • The skills required to participate in structured Equipment Strategy Development workshops using both RCM and PMO processes

Effective application of these techniques will generate a more effective Preventive Maintenance (PM) program that can result in improvements to:

  • Overall Equipment Effectiveness,
  • Equipment Availability,
  • Equipment Reliability,
  • Cost performance,
  • Labour productivity, and
  • Safety and Environmental performance.


Who Should Attend

  • Personnel expected to contribute to maintenance strategy development, including maintenance personnel, supervisors, planners, schedulers and engineers


Training Course Duration


This course consists of a combination of self-paced learning and 8 x 1.5 hour live online facilitated training sessions.  Participants are given 3 months access to complete the course (extensions may be possible in extenuating circumstances).  Live sessions for this course are held between 1300 and 1430 hrs (AEST) each day over two consecutive weeks: Tuesday-Friday.  Please click here to view the dates that these live sessions are currently scheduled to run.  Attendance at these live sessions is compulsory in order to successfully complete the course.




This course leverages off Assetivity's extensive experience in development of maintenance strategies for physical assets in a wide variety of industries, including mining, mineral processing, oil and gas, utilities, manufacturing, transport and defence. 


Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, delegates should (as a minimum) be able to:

  • Describe the benefits that can be gained through an effective PM program.
  • Describe the principles of both RCM and PMO.
  • Identify the steps involved in developing an equipment strategy.
  • Contribute to each step, particularly:
    • Applying RCM or PMO techniques as appropriate to the equipment,
    • Identifying equipment functions and failure modes,
    • Selecting recommended maintenance tasks, and
    • Identifying additional improvement tasks.



This course is not formally assessed, though participants undertake case studies and exercises to ensure their new knowledge transfers into practical skills and the confidence to apply them in the workplace.
